Any 114 owners in Atlanta area?

Hey there! I am currently a 46 year old student pilot training on a Grumman Tiger. I am knocking out my FAA checkride in the next couple of weeks and am seriously looking at purchasing a 114 for my 1st plane so that I can continue straight into my instrument training in it.
I am 6’4” 285 (ex college football player) and it seems as the commander would give me the most room to be the most comfortable in.
However, I would like to make sure of the “fit” if possible. Are there any Commander owners in the Atlanta area that would let me take a test sit in their plane?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Morning Chris,

I think there is one in Cartersville (KVPC), sorry haven't made his acquaintance yet.
We hit Cartersville monthly. Sure there has to be others in the Hot Lanta area.

A good buddy of mine is about the same build, (I'm 6,2 and add a few more pounds) and we fit comfortably in the Commander. Funny, I was convinced the AA5 (Tiger) was the plane for me before I tried one on for size.:o Talk about popping one's bubble, I'd researched the AA5's for a year prior . . .

We're about due a Atlanta run, I'll let you know when I get my mission brief from the wife unit . . .

Don't think you'll go wrong with the Commander, we have some healthy folks in our fleet.;)
John

Chris this attached picture will answer all your questions for you when it comes to whether you will fit in a Commander or not. I'm 6'0 230, my son is standing beside me in this picture. My son fits "OK" in the Commander, a "LITTLE" snug but he's 6'7 365 and he flies in mine regularly, I'm certain you're going to find that you fit perfectly fine in the Commanders.

It's really hard to put this picture into perspective because my son makes me look small, I'm not a small guy and all the Commander folks that have hung out with me will attest, 6'0 230 is well above average, but this picture doesn't seem to show that and it's because my son is HUGE. (Hint remember all standard/residential doorways are 6'7, look at the doorway he is standing in front of)

For big boys such as yourself, my son, John Wright, Mike McGrath etc etc the Commander is the only way to go.

You'll Love the Commander and All it's extra room, especially when Compared to the Tiger and others.

I love the Commander and one of the reasons I bought it was because of the room and ease to get in and out of. I’m 6’6" 300lbs.

Todd, you need to bring your son up to the cookout.

Where are you in Atlanta? I go there sometimes.

Re: Any 114 owners in Atlanta area?

Hey there! Thanks for all the info!
I live just North of Atlanta in Canton, GA. But I do my flying out of Kennesaw at McCollum/ RYY.
Todd must be a legend, because I did my solo X-Cntry to GAD and struck up a conversation at the FBO. When I mentioned I was thinking of purchasing a Commander Todd’s name came up pretty quick!
If any of you are in the area, let me know! I’d love to met ya and let me show me your plane!

Todd is a good guy. I have flown to McCollum a few times myself. I had family near there until they just moved recently. When I get some free time I can try and get over there.

BTW: is Cherokee County Airport closer to you?

Also, if you can get over this way on the 7th of April I am having a cookout and there should be some 112's, 112 turbo's, and 114's there. It would be a great opportunity to check several out.

Re: Any 114 owners in Atlanta area?

Hey Michael!
Thanks for the invite! I’ll see what I can do to make it up.
Yes! If I could walk straight through the woods and across the river Cherokee Airport is only two miles away from my neighborhood!

Just before Christmas we had 3 on the (KRYY) ramp for dinner at the Chop House.

A couple of us usually hit the Aircraft Spruce Customer Day (Todd won a LightSpeed headset, next year I won a handheld Com/Nav):p

And down the road in Dawson Ga, Ken Andrews has his 112 and they do a EAA Breakfast every 3rd Sat . . .:)
