Well finally got her airborne late Sunday afternoon and home Monday late afternoon to ND after purchased 14ish months ago. Even though still really didn’t have the time to take for my own airplane I had to get out to Concord NC and finish getting ready for flight. Due to ramp repairs they were short on tie downs and hoped I could get moved off airport ASAP. Getting her ready for flight took a few more days than I wanted/hoped was there for 14 days working 14-16 hr days. Frustratingly local Avionics shop left early on Friday so didn’t come test transponder, after I installed new one/overnighted parts since Xponder in acft wasn’t working then was then wasn't, so got waiver to go out from under Mode C Vail. Pictured is 1st stop, KIMS (Madison IN) for some fuel and to get out and look over. Was about 3 hr flight for its 1st time since sometime in 2001. All was well no leaks, no failures, only thing can say is RPM indication didn’t always seem to be same (will check out with my prop balancer and may have to have Governor or prop work) had a little variation and did have a little dampness look to back of prop blades from the grease’s oil separation from setting for so long. Continued on until Just before sunset stopping for night at KGCP, Greencastle IN, all looked good back in air Monday mid morning to KMXO, Monticello IO all still looked good added another 49 gallons seemed to be our usual and on to KPQN, Pipestone MN all still good on to Home airport KBWW, Bowman ND.

Now unfortunately she needs to sit for a bit while I get the pile up of customer work done but she’s home in my hanger in good working order that made treck from Concord NC over alot of tree covered ground and Appellation Mountain Range to Bowman ND pretty good for 1st time flying in 23yrs. I should have taken more pictures but we were avoiding possible weather movement so kept to task on hand, fly, land, look over, add fuel, sump tanks, check oil, engine bay, and gear/gear-wells and get back in air.

Congratulations - you have way more patience than I. Nice to see it back in the air. Good luck with it!!

Good job Brent!
Congrats on getting it home, that was a feat you just accomplished!
I’m speaking of all the work you did out on the ramp before you test flew it all the way home!
It was fun watching your progress on Flightaware.

Thanks. That’s 3rd plane I’ve bought a ways from ND and brought home, with a CFI, seeing I don’t have my license yet and 4th big cross country.
• 1st Cherokee 140 from Corsicana TX, annualed there and flew back home one day. 12.2 block 10.3 flight
• 2nd 7GCAA from ElMonte CA to home did over 3 days as had a couple planned stops to visit people look over Jalapeño Ranch my buddy CFI bought and parceling out for people to build hanger and have hookup for their camper
• 3rd from home to Reno Stead NV in Cherokee to work on a Shorts Tucano (CFI buddy had to fly home himself as I was stuck there and Eugene OR working for what ended up being 32 days
• 4th Commander 112A Concord to home

Commander had set the longest not flown than the other two. Each one was luckily an uneventful cross country, and fun experience. I guess now need to go North )more North than ND and buy something and fly home haha

I really wanted to fly this CT4A/B Royal Australian Air Force Trainer home I bought in Goldsboro NC. Unfortunately owner prior to me arriving to look at it didn’t pull prop through and it had been setting longer than he wanted to remember and he started it and ran it. When I got there he said wasn’t running on a cylinder. Well ended up wasn’t running on 3 cylinders as 3 exhaust valves were stuck. When he started/ran it bent 3 push rods, snapped one of the rocker arms in half and left 2 crescent indentations in 2 pistons from piston hitting stuck open exhaust valves. If wasn’t for that stress on the valve heads I would have freed up valves and flown home. But removed engine then decided I would improve Engine during O/H and went back out and disassembled and hauled home. I own 2 of the only 3 in US. Need to get this one all gone through making a show plane on Shorts Tucano and Aero L-39 and then want to build the other for someone else.

Awesome job, Brent!

I hope you and Mike had a great trip. And get some rest!

Cheers.
Jake

Nicely done and great to have her back in the skies!

Congrats on the safe flight home. Great to save another Commander and give it a good home.
