I have a good condition 114/A engine for sale. SMOH 1172.7. GAMI'd. Removed for 580 conversion of aircraft.

I am new to Commanders and see some 114's with engine timed out. Can you give me an idea of what a used engine, such as yours, is worth.
Best Regards
Phil

Could buy that used motor and add my last HS kit, and fly 100 a year for the next 8 years - probably sell the motor you have as a core. Probably less than just an overhaul!

Hi Phil,

It maps out like this for a run-out 114/A:

Option 1:
Send existing engine for overhaul.
In April, AirPower was quoting $56K and 12-13 months turn around time.
Field overhaul might be cheaper but still might get stuck on parts leadtimes.
OH expectation is 2000 hours till TBO. Engine cost $28 per hour.
Hard to buy a plane on this plan, because can't fly it for a year.

Option 2:
Install serviceable engine like the one I am offering for $25K.
Sell existing core engine for $5K (may take a while).
Expectation is 800 hours remaining till TBO. Engine cost $25 per hour.
Expect be flying on the new engine within several weeks.

Installation costs expected similar.

Jim

Jim,
Thanks so much; that is exactly what I was looking for.

Best Regards
Phil

In April, AirPower was quoting $56K and 12-13 months turn around time.

Air Power (in April) quoted $57k for overhaul, $63k for rebuilt, and $105k for factory new. That's for the IO-540-T4B5 engine from the later 114B models, which can be installed in the earlier model 114s with Jim's STC. The -T4B5 can also be ordered with one Lycoming EIS (originally Surefly) magneto at no added cost.

If interested.... I just had my engine (Lycoming IO-540-T4B5D) overhauled by JB Aircraft Engine Services in Sebring Florida. Quote was $44,900.00 plus shipping..... I'm based at KBWI. It was removed from my plane in late April, shipped to Florida... and was deliverd back to me complete on July 26th. Jimmy had it complete in 90 days.
