Dropping into San Marcos today to see my son, My assistant called ahead. This is what she sent me.

“Redbird Skyport has $1/gallon 100LL for the month. There is a $200 limit per day. She said you need to preregister on their website which I should be able to do for you.”

Update: Took on 61 gallons (tight planning but it was pure VFR) of that buck-a-gallon stuff last evening at KHYI San Marcos before arriving T82. I got there at 18:45 and was #3 for fuel, but but have 2 trucks and getting a 3rd for the weekend. All from the truck, no SS. When I left about 8:00 (had dinner with my son) there were still people coming in. The girl told me they were lined up 3-deep several times during the day. When I left they had fueled 120 planes that day. Fueling 7 AM to 10 PM. You do not need to pre-register, but if you do it might save time. If you are going, I would get it done Friday, earlier the better. If Saturday or Sunday, make it early. I think there is the potential for an hour or more wait on the weekend.

I have just paid £1.92 for a litre or £7.27 for a US gallon at today's rate that's $11.76 a gallon.

With half full tanks you can fly over five countries, with full tanks I can't even get across Texas.

Not that there is anything wrong with Texas,!!!!!

Ken you're right
It's only because we live on a relatively small island that flying is viable, we can have lunch in France, Belgium or Holland in less than an hours flight. The avgas is then cheaper than car and ferry, that's what I tell my wife anyway.
In any case our licence is we are told a privilege, I go along with that, it's more than just the cost, it's a passion.

Looks like we ran Red-bird out of fuel. They are shutting the $1/gal deal down two weeks early!

Perhaps they were able to gather their "big data" numbers before the AOPA onslaught? Still fun to save $200+ on a fillup. (And bag an approach to mins to boot!)

This does not surprise me at all, having to cut it off. They got the same amount of publicity. I dropped in there Wednesday at 10:00 AM heading back up north from SAT, pulled up and the guy told me 45 minutes- 1 hour. Well, I only needed 20 gallons and had to go all the way to Detroit, so I headed back out. But I did get 61.8 gallons the Wednesday before, saving more than $300, so that was great, and no line that evening.

can't you get the tax paid on the fuel back if you fly to Mexico ?

I came a hair of flying to Monterrey, Mexico last year for business, until member Roberto Schroeder talked me out of it! There are many, many stories, some of which may even be true. One of the most-heard is guys sneaking into your plane at night and loading it with contraband and you don't even know. Then you depart and they track you ... and at some point catch up to you and collect the booty, presuming you did not get nailed by customs and are in jail. They say either route can leave your plane and/or your person in shambles.

Yes, If you have anything like the guys we have in customs/DEA or whatever, when they come looking they know where to look...cable runs and even inside tires. Must be an interesting occupation
