    2010 cog fly-in location

Re: 2010 cog fly-in location Hi Andy. Perhaps an enterprising COG member of the West (hint hint) could put together a local fly-in for the Left-Coasters. The last time this was tried, I had hoped to get up-close and personal with a commander, but one-by-one the members dropped out until I...

    The conversation

Re: The conversation If I have any doubt about instructions I just say: "Verify I'm cleared to (xxx)". I try to use the same language that control uses when they query me. I've had them ask me to verify the ATIS code or verify traffic in sight, so it's an acceptable practice and no one will...

    The conversation

Re: The conversation We have a controller named "Todd" down here at KLGB who has irked just about everyone at one time or another. The irony is, everything the guy does is by-the-book! If you come back with anything other than your full call sign, he will tell you to give your whole N-number...

    Iceland Fly In

Re: Iceland Fly In Of course you are correct Scott: going down in the mid-Atlantic is not the same as down-town LA. I'm just musing here, but it seems that you will most likely initially survive a ditching. Not so sure about an off-airport "landing" over a populated area...... But the point...

    Iceland Fly In

Re: Iceland Fly In I find it somewhat ironic that folks are saying they won't make a trip over water because their engine is near TBO, yet (presumably) they are willing to continue to fly the same engine over populated areas with schools, houses, and other "un-landable" terrain. Perhaps it's...

    Info on Zamperini/Torrance KTOA

Re: Info on Zamperini/Torrance KTOA On the subject of fuel prices in SoCal, if coming from the East, the best self-serve prices will be at RIR followed by AJO. Great food at RIR too. regards ~Marc

    Info on Zamperini/Torrance KTOA

Re: Info on Zamperini/Torrance KTOA One reason that the info is so scarce may be the lack of a cafe on the field. There's no reason to go there other than to shoot the ILS of visit the Robinson Heli factory. Most others land, get a clearance and depart. regards ~Marc

Flying over water - Does this bother you?

Re: Flying over water - Does this bother you? Water doesn't bother me as much as heavily congested cities @ 1000 to 2000 feet. At least if I go down in the water I will most probably survive the "landing". In the "hard-scape" surrounding SoCal, surviving the "landing" is less certain. YMMV...

    The "8 Knot Mod"

Re: The "8 Knot Mod" Thanks Clark. It sounds like the diagnoses has all ready been made in this case, but if there is doubt, a small camera may show the extent of damage in questionable areas that are otherwise tough to inspect. Ridgid tools are high quality and expensive, and may be overkill...
