    Congratulations newly minted pilot!

Congratulations to Commander owner Brent Kline up in North Dakota for earning his private pilot certification in his Citabria. Now he needs some dual instruction in his Commander to satisfy the insurance company.

    April 8th $100 Eclipse

As we all expected, there will be many fly-ins across the country celebrating the eclipse, all the way from Texas on up to French Lick and on to the Northeast. I’m out of the pathway but I’m happy to see just how many events are scheduled. I never thought of flying out for a $100 eclipse! A...

    Buckeye Air Fair

Just wondering if anyone in the Arizona area is planning on attending the AOPA Air Fair at the Buckeye airport in February? Any Commander owners who would like to meet up there please chime in!

    Pearl Harbor day

I didn’t plan this out, but even a blind squirrel gets lucky sometimes. I took my flight instructor out for a 100 mile jaunt to Granite Falls,MN this morning. Upon arrival, we noticed 25 or more airplanes on the small ramp and many, many vehicles in the parking lot. And as luck would have it...

    What an opportunity!

I just had an offer from a French photographer to fly as a photography ship. He needs a platform that cruises about 150. Got that. He also needs to take the door off for an unrestricted view. Rats, I can’t even shut the door in flight let alone remove the door and fly! Hey, I’m no test pilot...

    Oshkosh 2023

As I write this from mid-state Minnesota (112 miles north of Mpls), it’s 66 degrees with a brisk breeze coming from the NW off the lake. Ann is wrapped in a blanket on the couch and we turned on the forced air furnace. But guess what the forecast is for next week when we want to camp out @...

    Commander fly-in 2023

Just wondering if the dates were set for the COG fly-in in September? I have always wanted to see the air races in Reno, but I hesitate to purchase tickets when the COG event might be conveniently close to those of us in the Midwest this year. Any news would be appreciated…

    Yesterday’s Adventure

I have a new Personal Best after yesterday’s flights. Ann and I spent a glorious week in Marco Island, Florida. The weather worked out for us on the way down and on the way back. In my 1,000+ hours of flying I’ve never been able to travel more than 500 miles without encountering some adverse...

    Another learning experience

I taxied away from the self serve pumps at KMKY, 1200 miles from home and noticed my alternator wasn’t charging! On a Saturday no less, no mechanic around until Monday! Yikes! Now what? I’ve never had this happen in 7 years of ownership. Before I shut it down I increased the RPM’s and watched...

    April fool’s day!

Unfortunately, this photo isn’t a joke! We woke up to 10” of fresh snow this morning! Dang! I should have gone to Sun-N-Fun! Unfortunately it didn’t fit into this

    Today’s weather

While sitting in the house listening to the wind, I decided to look up the nearest airport weather. With winds aloft at 10K were 69 knots from the west, if I could taxi out to runway 27 I could almost hover. Or maybe put some parts on “will-call” @ Aerodyme and go pick them up! The sky is...

    Anybody hungry for barbecue?

I have been looking for great barbecue places to fly to for a while now. While watching triple D, (Diners Drive-ins & Dives) I discovered Southern Soul Barbecue on St Simons Island, GA. This is literally a 5 minute flight from Jekyl Island! It’s not much of a fly-out, but hey, if you’re hungry…

Featured in the news media in a positive manner

While reading an email from EAA, I noticed a picture of N1501J making it’s turn to final at Airventure. The owner is listed as David Starkey from LaJolla CA. Considering the small number of Commanders there, the likelyhood of being photographed is minimal, no?

Erich Von Daniken used a Commander…

While watching a cable tv show I see the author of Chariots of the Gods standing next to a Commander. Famous authors need to get around too!

    Page field FBO

Has anyone been to Page Field in Fort Meyers lately? I was looking for a reputable FBO at an airport near Sanibel Island. I’m not sure I want to get into the traffic at the bigger airport...
