    Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out... I called BNA Atlantic today and inquired about this Sat & Sun overnight. I may have to catch a SWA flight out of BNA Saturday am..... They quoted me $20/night with fuel purchase with landing and security fee waived. In spite of all the negatives on Airnav...

I can cross LAS off the bucket list....

Re: I can cross LAS off the bucket list.... I was two nights. They hauled me on a golf cart halfway across the airport to fill my O2 tanks. I don't think they have too much demand for piston O2 anymore. Ate at their restaurant yesterday afternoon. Probably the best $10 burger in Vegas...

I can cross LAS off the bucket list....

Re: I can cross LAS off the bucket list.... Vince- That's the point. LAS was the goal. Rode in here many times in the alum tubes. Always wanted to do it myself. Atlantic is great. ATC brought me in with no delays and ground taxi was a breeze. Helps to know the layout before coming. Probably...

    Illinois RON

Re: Illinois RON I've done Dubuque (DBQ) but hotels aren't close. Clinton, IA (CWI) remote and fewer hotel options, Madison, Wi (MSN) probably best services, ground transport, & urban overnight amenities. Nothing more exciting than an early morning 30-minute flight to RIPON. k

    Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out...

Re: Grand Oaks Airfield Fly-Out... We once had a city manager with similar math skills. Broke the city. Almost destroyed the airport. We railroaded him out of town finally. Government bureaucrats learn from each other. k

    Gas Spring Door Stays

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays Carl- What is the life expectancy of our gas struts? I've looked at mine and wondered how hard it would be to replace the struts. (from my automotive experience, I go through a lot of them in older cars of all makes and models.) You might think about replacement...

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring It took me three months. But a competent A&P could do it in a day. Assuming they have everything* and follow the directions. You may have to make some "adjustments" if your door jamb alignment isn't standard. k * new baggage door gasket, new hinge hardware...

    Commander Siblings!!

Re: Commander Siblings!! Sherman- Probably should have phrased that differently........ Your prop failure started the process that lead to it. Wheels of government took a few years. Still think about your experience when I preflight my prop.

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring https://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/cs/fueltanksealants/prosealant.php I went back with Chemseal 3204 from Spruce. Even though this was probably the stuff I spent quite a bit of time removing from a long-ago interior upgrade. Whatever you use needs to...

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring Carl- It's a great enhancement to our aircraft. Thanks for all you did to make it happen. I enjoyed the challenge of mine and learned some great lessons. 1. read the directions carefully. 2. measure twice and drill before drinking the beer. 3. take all your...

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring Here's a picture with the interior piece installed on the door. I used the soft side of black velcro strips on the inside of the door behind the strut to soften the appearance through the hole I cut too big after missing the alignment on the first try. BTW I also...

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring Ok Carl- Finished my baggage door a couple of weeks ago. Did the interior re-install last weekend and have flown her three evenings this wk. Installed the baggage door interior piece my upholstery lady repaired today (after I managed to mangle it completing Carl's...

    Spring thaw

Re: Spring thaw That's great Sherman. I've been in winter hibernation with hangar too cold to finish baggage door. Made some progress yesterday afternoon & hope to spend most of today in hangar. It's great to smell spring. k

    Baggage Door Gas Spring

Re: Baggage Door Gas Spring Worked through the sealer material this wknd and got the baggage door off. Temperatures crept up in hangar & I attacked it with several ideas. Attached some pictures of the stuff coming off. It appears to be a 2-stage epoxy that needs heat, MEK, a sharp blade, and...
