Another testimonial for the need of two doors. I used to fly a Malibu a few years ago for a buddy. The only thing worse than having one door to the cockpit is not having any doors at all. Plus a giant spar to have to get over in case you needed to get out in a hurry.

I went with what I had because I wanted to have primary certification AND keep my old analog gauges for backup. In regard to probes - you will have to go with new probes. The ones that your analog gauges will not work with the engine monitor. And besides, you only have one EGT and CHT probe...

I have the same thing - and I kept my factory analog group so that I have redundancy.

OK....the seats ARE a hell to get out.. that is a negative. For whatever reason Commander decided to put in a LaZBoy for a seat. Comfortable...but compared to other airplanes I have owned a little more complicated and alot more heavy to get out. For the 114B's, the cowling is the easiest...

The Commander is not a difficult airplane to maintain. Find a good A&P/IA and buy him a COG membership so that he can access the club website. Mechanics like working on them because they are simple and big - especially the engine area.

Exactly....there is ZERO economic sense for traveling by private aircraft. At least as an accountant would look at it. I also like to hunt, and I can tell you that there is absolutely no more expensive way possible to put meat on your table than by hunting for it. We fly, hunt, fish, camp...
