    Lake MI Crossing

I normally evaluate any potential water crossing individually, don’t have a right or wrong answer about doing it. I’m more likely to go when solo, nice weather, ‘warmer’ water helps. The other day I had reason to go to Grand Haven, MI, 105 NM direct, alluring. I was checking some ship tracking...

    Howdy

Welcome, we got a kick out of all the jackrabbits when we stopped in NW TX back in March, Hereford. The Sep Commander fly-in is in TX this Fall. You should put it on your calendar, most any ownership question could be answered in a timely fashion.

    Sun-n-Fun 2019

Thought about trying to go, but after the Grand Canyon adventure I’m in recovery(wallet) mode. I have a touch of a cold too, kinda works since I’m on vacation for a while longer. Anyhoo, have fun down there. I’ll have to keep my powder dry for Oshkosh.

A quick stop at ASG, Guernsey (EGJB)

Seems like a lot of Commanders there, especially with the lower European numbers. It’s gotta be helpful that they have the familiarity when things come up,

Yes, my G.C. overflight was a total non-issue. The only other traffic on the freq was the tour flyers, well below the casual G.A. flyer at 10.5 or 11.5k. They seemed to be down at 8.5+/- some for direction through the corridor. Back at the GCN airport there was just a bit of traffic, the helo...

We made it back to WI last eve. We arc’ed North from NW TX then towards WI, fair amount of headwind no matter how one planned it. The potential fuel stop(s) had to be some version of a N/S runway to deal with the 30+/-kt surface winds. My Garmin Pilot app has the fuel prices, of course that’s...

We stayed in St George a bit extra. The ignition switch has been acting up, thought I could make it to the June annual, not to be. Jim at Aerodyme helped reference the correct replacement. I overnighted it from Spruce, seems to be corrected. The mechanic put it in. We added the Mormon Temple...

Flew over to St George, UT today, great weather. Since things are on the fly, I found out no rental cars were available. Our friends from back in WI are here visiting family. They let us use their BMW for the day, didn’t even take much of a hint. Yes, I’ll reciprocate. We spent the afternoon...

We were lucky to get one of the last rooms in town, most everything full. Lots of people on spring break getaways. It is kinda a pain to get up to 10.5k or so. I’ll be glad to get back to a standard day at 700’ MSL.

Today was busy. Started with the museum & gift shop at the Whittington Center. Since the low clouds had to burn off, ate at Denny’s. Once launch we started the pictures at Ship Rock, then the ‘4-Corners’ site(from the air). After that Monument Valley, Lake Powell, then the ‘Zuni Corridor’ over...

Here we are in Raton, NM, for the overnight. I asked the guy at the airport where about is that NRA ranch, Whittington Center? He said it’s only just over two miles away, you can stay there if you want. It was an added treat to stay here, lots of mule deer hanging around, plenty of gun ranges...

    The Other Guy

Some type of flying app should easily keep one out of trouble, Foreflight, Garmin Pilot, etc. If flying local one should have a handle on local gotchas. Then we have ‘flight following’ as another tool. Things happen of course, worse things could happen too.

My first post (New Member Boris)

Welcome Boris. I am only a few serial numbers away from you, #456 with my 76 112 Commander. Yes, hopefully you can keep your plane airworthy over there. You came to the right place to research help & reccomendations.

    Chicago Commander! Any others?

I’m up in SE WI, good fuel stop at BUU, Burlington. There is a 114 based there too.

TN Govenor Bill Lee at KSNH

Re: TN Govenor Bill Lee at KSNH They do look good. I have noticed more ramp appeal than with the average zessna or Piper.

    And ANOTHER new member!

Re: And ANOTHER new member! Ron, Sun & Fun in Lakeland is coming up. Being from FL I’d think you may already have it on the schedule, if not try to fit it in.

    Boeing Buys ForeFlight

Re: Boeing Buys ForeFlight The Foreflight booth at Oshkosh is always swamped. I use Garmin Pilot, cuz it started as a freebee. I’ve stuck with it now that it’s a paid subscription. I had pondered if I should switch. I’ll hang with Garmin for now.

    Cat Island

Re: Cat Island 50 miles or so over relatively warm water(with survival gear) is certainly sensible. Fly fairly high and you just have the bit in the middle to worry about. Looking at recent accidents in the area, WEATHER is the main bugaboo. Another instance where being a weather geek is...

    What would you do?

Re: What would you do? Agree with above, the 600 hours is almost meaningless if it was a long time ago with large gaps in routine flying. Most of us have little problems going beyond The Lycoming 12 year recommended overhaul intervals. I looked at an 85 Dakota a few years ago, 1500 hours TT...

    Oshkosh 2019

Re: Oshkosh 2019 Planning the Oshkosh trip is 1/3 the fun. The longer the distance the more flexible one has to be as the trip approaches. I’m often a Monday morning arrival guy, parking can be tight. I ended up in Fond Du Lac a few times the last few years. Last Summer Monday was really...
