    US 2020 COG Fly-in?

I do like the location! Never been, seems a very nice airport. Yeah, I always try to move the plane myself, hopefully just park it where it doesn’t need to be moved. When in for an annual it’s another matter, though most mechanics somewhat familiar ‘should’ know proper procedures. With my...

    Oshkosh 2020 - cancelled

Hopefully by later July this wanes a bunch. I agree, it’s way to early to think about adjusting Oshkosh dates.

    US 2020 COG Fly-in?

A weekend to work with anyway.

    Fuel Prices

The one good side with this Corona virus, it’s dragging oil down. I know it won’t filter down like unleaded auto fuel, but any bit helps. I’m hoping warmer weather slows this latest ailment.

    Commander down, glad all ok

Thanks for sharing, while painful, ‘lessons learned’ are there to help others. All the best dealing with the aftermath. My Son was a CFI at Flight Safety, moved on to a Regional. He told me some of the more ‘extreme’ events(low altitude engine outs) were discussion or ‘demo’ maneuvers. Not that...

    Fuel Prices

Yes, price is always a factor, depending on variables. If just tooling around, may as well land where they have cheaper fuel. Monroe, WI was $3.77 until they bumped it up a few weeks ago, $3.90 or so now. Of course if one goes even 4 gallons out of the way, to save 20 cents a gallon, then...

Landing at the NASA Shuttle Landing Facility

That does sound like an adventure.

The engine was about $44k, prop about $13k. I had a lot of ancillary work done on top of it, with a new engine monitor, fresh annual. I didn’t add up every dollar. I don’t have many problems now. Truth be known, had I mapped out the road better ahead of time, may of went in a...

So looking forward to Dec and the next Bahamas trip....

Sounds great. Hopefully any hurricane repairs are well underway. Can’t hurt a runway very easily.

KLNR Lone Rock, Tri-County Airport - WI

It is a traditional small town diner, I had an omelet. I’m not of the fussy type, like most everything, so it was good. I will say, Bessie’s Diner at The Janesville airport is hard to beat, they are a few steps above average.

KLNR Lone Rock, Tri-County Airport - WI

My 1st time here, not to far West of Madison. The have a very convenient diner right at the airport, 4-5 other planes for the weekday breakfast outing. With water near the runway there were a fair number of avian hazards around. Anyway, a good spot to fly for a bite, check restaurant hours...

    Need a mentor

With two people the ‘’station wagon mod’’(rear seats out) helps a bit, 40lbs worth. Lots of flights don’t require 68 gallons of fuel. Fall is here soon, cool temps assist also. I’m always looking for favorable winds too.

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

I picked up a fellow aviation enthusiast near Milwaukee(Timmernam Field) then flew to RIPON Wednesday morning. The FISKE arrival was fairly mild, though a steady stream. Instead of the usual 27 they lined us up for 36R, in between various others. I hit the dot fairly close. I ended up parking at...

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

Planning on flying in Wednesday morning. If they are full, I’ll have to adjust somewhat. Plan to bring the tent to stay overnight.

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

When I’ve been there with extra days/time I look to see what forums & briefs are available. They could be by some of the big names in general aviation, maintenance, safety, flying to the Caribbean, whatever. Oftentimes I am doing the one day deal, but overnight allows one to ‘join the party’...

    Commanders to Oshkosh 2019

Kinda cutting it close, but my plane will be done with annual & Stratus Transponder install NLT tomorrow morning. After that I need a test flight or two, along with the careful preflight. I’ve always gone Monday, but this year I may wait until Wednesday or so. There is a school event I need to...

    Lake MI Crossing

As posted, flying over a 500’ OVC, or inhospitable terrain has it’s negatives too. Even the Chicago lakefront at 1900’ AGL(w), 1 mile offshore has limitations. In the summer the beach is wall to wall people. Most ‘engine failures’ seem to be fuel related, some way or another.
