I understand the price issue. The material is only about 50 bucks per rail. It's the other things that add up. Tooling was over 700.00 I now have 90 hours of reverse engineering and CAD time involved. The machine time is a little over 1.8 hours per rail. It's the other costs that start to add up on low volume. Shopping for material, saw cutting time, Making fixtures, machine setup, hand deburring every part, anodizing, driving all around to get things done. None of that includes the scrap parts that will be made just to get things dialed in. Dan at Commander told me that the replacement cost for a seat rail if they had them was over 1000 dollars each. I understand why. My goal is to get the cost much lower but I can't do it with a dozen buyers. However, if you think about it, a fuel selector valve is 1500 to 2000 grand if you can find one. Everything on this aircraft is overpriced due to lack of availability. After I machine a few rails I will see what can be done to get the price lower. I just refuse to work for free anymore. I put a lot of time, expertise and effort into everything I do. Being the engineer, designer, quality control guy, purchaser, shipper, machine programmer and manufacturing labor is overwhelming sometimes. I know you understand. I do appreciate your comments though. Fly safe.
