  • COG has a quiet program that may be able to pick up a number of these springs to hold as reserve "inventory". COG won't sell them directly as they must be considered "Owner Provided Parts". But COG can help with the acquisition expense to reach a cost effective min ordering quantity.

Oh? Excellent. I'll keep you posted as to how things progress. Right now the guy doing the spring manufacturing is out of town because he's getting married - the nerve, right? :) - and I won't have an update for another couple of weeks. I definitely think this kind of a program is a godsend. We here at the shop bend the rules sometimes with "owner provided parts." I'll let you know how many we need to order to get them into the $40ish range per.

    Thanks,

So I think I might need to take you up on the offer for assistance with acquisition expense. The cost didn't go down much at all in higher quantities. The owner of the company wasn't comfortable floating roughly $3000 to have the springs made for everyone on the forum. I get it - it was a bit disappointing but I'm hoping we can make this work.

I'm not looking to make any money on this deal. I'll just put the order in, get the parts, and get them sent out to folks who need them. I plan to provide them at cost plus whatever it is to ship it out.

What do we need to do to move forward?

    thanks,
    -Kelsey
Could you send me the particulars on the robotow you have. That's what I'm looking to buy if I can find a used one.

Sure - it's in Oregon with the airplane (in the shop for avionics upgrades) at the moment. I'll see if I can dig up the model number.
It's one of the older units. I think I paid $1400 for it.

After looking through emails and such I don't think I have the model number available. It'll have to wait until I get the airplane back, which will be a few weeks.
I have a 1976 114 and based at Pearson Field, Vancouver, WA.
On mine 4 of the inspection plates have been replaced.
Give me a call and hopefully, I can save you a lot of extra work.
Flew to Arlington last Saturday and saw your airplane on the ramp.

Ha, I'm glad you got to see it! I'll have to fly down there some time and see yours :)

So, after some thought we took it to a shop on the field and the mechanic there is going to handle it for us this time. We have an avionics install coming up in a couple weeks (that we've been waiting for since February!) and I can't risk missing the appointment because of this. It's mainly in the interest of time.

That said, the other side is bound to fail sooner rather than later, and when that happens I'll definitely tackle it myself and give you a call for pointers. I appreciate the help!

    Cheers,
    -Kelsey
