Flew grandson to KSLR Sulpher Springs TX

I think that the main benefit is that it does QUICKLY clean up your briefing time for the charts - approach, SIDS, and STARS. Actually probably really a big benefit for STARS in anticipating which one will be assigned. I have a GTN 750 navigator, so probably not a total "game changer" but if...

Flew grandson to KSLR Sulpher Springs TX

Flew my grandson up to KSLR Sulpher Springs TX to tour the American Legend Aircraft factory. They make a heck of an updated SuperCub! After that we ate lunch at the Reb Barn Cafe across the street from the field. This was my first flight to fly an approach and hold with the new Garmin Smart...

    Like Father, Like Son

You raised him right. The only way any of my sons would have a Commander would be if I bought it.

    IFR Current Again!

Good video - glad to see that you flew a missed approach. I flew a couple of those the other day with my son as a Safety Pilot. I was a little surprised at how involved it is to fly one in IMC conditions in full landing configuration. I fly enough approaches in actual IMC to stay current, but...

    Alpine, TX (E38)

We made our second trip down here on Friday. Clear skies so we did go to the McDonald Observatory. I am not a "star gazer" by any means, but I have to admit that the "show" at the Observatory this past Friday night was spectacular. We even saw the International Space Station go by in the sky...

Old Commander fuselage on the side of the road

I got an opportunity to fly a 114B Super Commander Jim Richards STC conversion - IO-580. These airframes definitely were made for 300+ hp. What a great airplane to fly. I would have to look at my notes again, but the climb to 10,000' was fantastic. The fuel burn from that IO-580 was...

    First GA flight

Awesome Rodney! Let's meet up at Lufkin sometime for a good hamburger! We are flying this weekend up to Fort Smith AR and then to Cotter for some trout fishing. A GA airplane makes this an easy trip. Staying at the Gaston's Resort - they have a great grass strip. It may be kind of iffy...

    New guy

Welcome to the group. You bought a great plane. Find some old videos of Bob Hoover flying the hell out of the Commander. It will show you what an ex fighter pilot can do with one.

Finn, Beautiful airplane. I might be interested in it - but I have to admit the prospect of buying it and then paying to have it ferried to Texas seems a bit daunting to me. What are you asking for it and can you send me some details? Stephen Shore sshore@shoco.com

Judi Anderson. That's really the only resource you need to find a good 114B or 115. Well....and some money.

    Commander Size Comparison

I just sat in a 2000 Turbo Saratoga this past week - wide cockpit but I could not slide my seat back far enough (club seating behind it) to comfortably get my knees below the yoke. Plus my head was very near the ceiling. Just seemed claustrophobic. Your butt is very close to the floor similar...

Yoke too small for GFC 500 switches

My yoke has three buttons on the right horn - Top- AP disconnect, Top back - Push to Talk, Backside of top - CWS It can all fit. Don't go with that plate - it is not necessary.
