Hey — I saw the pic of your panel on the autopilot post... wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing a few more pictures if you have them? Your panel is nearly identical to what I'm speccing and the placement is spot on, wanted to see if i can replicate it in my diagram software. If not no worries, thanks!
As you know I spent a small fortune upgrading my panel to all Garmin in 2020 when there was no option for the GFC 500 autopilot. Even before my panel upgrade, I had submitted a request to Garmin to include the TCA on their list of aircraft desiring to be added to the STC, and also volunteered N112TC for their certification process. I was close to just opting for an STEC 55 last summer due to lack of any progress with the 3100 when Garmin contacted me looking for a long wing Commander. Just between you and I, I flew up to Olathe for their pre acceptance inspection and passed (quite the inspection!), and ended up returning to drop the plane off over Thanksgiving.
Things are progressing quickly - All four servos (it’s a full up 3 axis with yaw damper and electric trim) were installed in just a few weeks since the locations turned out to be identical to the 114 they just finished up, so they’ll start test flights soon. I hope to pick it up next month if all goes well.
Obviously, I ended up contacting my avionics shop and Craig to tell them I was opting out. I hope you guys that want the 3100 are successful, but I’m committed now. At least with an all Garmin panel everything is perfectly integrated. I’ve been flying with a friend who has an identical setup (G3X touch and GFC 500) and it’s pretty impressive.
Please keep this information confidential for now - I’ll be able to post an update publicly when they give me permission (just as the 114 owner recently did).
Did you ever take N112TC up into the flight levels? Garmin will take it up to 20k but I suspect it’ll take a while to get up there, even maintaining horsepower with the turbo.
Fly safe!
