  • Good afternoon Ken,
Came across your post on 2nd alternator regulator issue for running your air conditioner. I am also having trouble with my 2nd alternator kicking off after 10/15 minutes running the fan or the air conditioner. Before I have my mechanic start tearing thinks apart was trying to research the forums first see if anyone else has had this problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi John:
SO sorry that I've just now seen your posted inquiry! Don't login very often (every two years or so??)
Anyway, after significant heartburn and $$-burn attempting to remedy this situation, I ran across a "local" A&P (at KBUU Spring City Aviation - Greg Joslyn) with the expertise and patience to optimistically dig into the problem and ultimately fix it. Turned out to be two-level issue: 1) Replaced Voltage Regulator with NEW one from Lamar, and 2) Spent about two hours (me included in this adventure) with the system's schematic in hand isolating circuits and "pinging" (with each of us operating Multi-meters) each circuit to determine where the intermittent problem existed. Turned out we found two diodes that, when loaded, were reacting "schizophrenically". Greg replaced both (cost around $2.50 each at a local electronics warehouse in Kenosha WI) and the system now functions (and has for the past 2+ years) as advertised in all respects.
Hoping you've already solved your problem. If not, be sure to connect with Greg.
