    Richard McSpadden

Spad and I were both young Lieutenants flying F-15 in Okinawa in the mid 80's. He went on to command the Thunderbirds, followed by some industry work, culminating in the Air Safety Institute at AOPA. I flew with his brother at UPS after I left the Air Force. They both learned to fly from their...

    2022 Fly-In?

Fort Collins sounds great. FWIW I flew from TLH to FUL in April. Stayed south through ELP, TUS, into the LA Basin through Banning CA. All good in my IO-390 112. I did get bumped around on a leg from ELP-AVQ. Decent mountain wave, had trouble maintaining 10,500 on a high DA morning. No problem at...

    Oshkosh EAA 2022

Anyone going? I'll be there for the duration. Planning on arriving Friday before it starts. My son lives in Milwaukee, so I'll go see him before and after. Also any gouge appreciated for a first timer. I'm finally getting used to the SE piston world :-)

    New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners Update - just finished my annual, installed the new Shiminator, and installed both the nose scissors service kit (SK-140) and nose torque link service kit (SK-199). Flew the airplane and no vibration when the nose gear touches down. I can feel the wheel spinning up and...

    New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners I suspect the shimmy dampener was empty before I bought it. I think we missed it completely. It will definitely be fixed along with all the other wear and tear parts. Live and learn. It's almost like you need to join this forum about a year prior to purchase, just to...

    New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners Do you mean the ones that come with the SK-100 kit? http://aerodyme.com/Service_Kits/service_kits_0.html I'm pretty much planning on installing any service kit available on the next annual! :-) I'll have to wait until I see what the SHIMinator shimmy dampener comes...

    New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners Another live and learn lesson as a new Commander Owner. When we did the pre-buy and the annual, this definitely slipped through the cracks. Since I don't know what a properly serviced shimmy dampener feels like on touchdown, I didn't think anything was wrong. I never...

    New Shimmy Dampners

Re: New Shimmy Dampners My shop thinks they're too worn to refurbish and recommend replacement. See attached photos. (Btw - I tried using the VR image hoster on this forum, but it keeps rejecting my photos. Postimage.org allows you to resize them for bulletin board use. Hopefully they work)...
