    I guess this must be love . . .

Flew 96W home for the first time on December 3, 2013. Seven years and nearly 700 hours later and I'm no less thrilled as I taxi to the active!

    Air Facts Journal Commander Photo

Re: Air Facts Journal Commander Photo Sorry about that, Scott. I'm finding that aviation is not content with being only a mistress. On a sad note, I just read that Richard Collins (Air Facts author, Flying editor, etc.) died yesterday. He was a big advocate for general aviation as a real...

    Air Facts Journal Commander Photo

Air Facts Journal published a photo I took during my Commander commute for their “Friday Photo” feature: http://www.airfactsjournal.com Owning and flying my 114 has been a real blessing. The things we get to see . . . .

    Hello and help please

Re: Hello and help please Current FAA approved flight manual is not required in light airplanes (6000lbs or less) manufactured before March 1, 1979 (to be exact). I just came across this in my King Commercial Ground School.:)

FAA Medical Reform - and they said it would never happen

Re: FAA Medical Reform - and they said it would never happen Just renewed my medical. My AME (a retired anesthesiologist) says he will not fill out any form certifying anything about an individual's fitness to operate an airplane. Therefore, pending the final rules, he doesn't plan on doing...

    Bird Strike

Re: Bird Strike I read somewhere that if you have your landing light(s) on, it will dramatically reduce the likelihood of a birdstrike. Evidently the bird can better "see and avoid." Your mileage may vary.

First I've seen ice in the wild . . .

My first experience with icing. I flew my routine mission to NE GA on Thursday from Central FL and picked up a layer of rime ice on the leading edges of the wings and on the windscreen during my descent. I couldn't discern any handling or performance difference. It wasn't unexpected (I was...

    The need for speed . . .

Re: The need for speed . . . Pete, your numbers are about what I would have imagined. Are you burning about 15GPH at those power/altitude profiles?

    The need for speed . . .

Re: The need for speed . . . That's awesome Todd! What TAS are you seeing in cruise? What's your fuel burn, altitude, etc. From what I've read, normally aspirated Bonanzas and SR22s can get 170+ ROP and 160 LOP.

    The need for speed . . .

Flew my 114 back from N GA today and benefited from a massive tailwind. My 145kts true translated into a 185kt ground speed! A Commander that could cruise as fast as a Bonanza or SR22 would be perfection.

    Back in the saddle . . .

After being down for 2.5 months, I was able to put the 114 back into service on the mission I bought it for, to wit, transporting my daughter back and forth to her school in Rabun Gap, GA. I convert a 9 hour drive (one way) into a 2:20 flight. Launched for home at 6:00 PM from Toccoa and...
