Hi there,

I am moving towards shared ownership of a Commander 112 located out of CYKF (C-FFOM) and noticing that there are no prior postings in this topic wanted to kick this off to see if we can start to build a list of Canadian Commander owners and locations to see about kicking of some fair weather get togethers either locally or larger in Canada ?

If you own a C registered Commander, drop a reply with your base and name and I will start to pull a list together.

I had no idea FFOM existed out of the airport I have flown out of for 13 years (Waterloo) and have seen some postings from Hanover and such so I know there are more of us out there !

Tony,

Our bird is in Buttonville.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

No reason why we cannot start a category here labeled "Canadian." Great idea. RADU! (he is our esteemed webmaster)

I fly across Canadian airspace probably once a month and have used Windsor, Port Huron, London, Buttonville, Peterborough and Lindsay Airports in Ontario during the past few years. If you were to have a fly-in in London, for example, I would come over in a heartbeat. I try to do customs in London because you call them on your phone, tell them your information, they tell you top standby, then they send you on your way. Sweet & simple. In Peterborough, the customs-babe made me remove everything from the plane, the back panel, etc. Took 90 minutes. I think she was pissesd because she was cut as the Pete's 3rd-strong goalie!

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

Hi Scott,

I look forward to meeting you at one of the fly ins in and around the London /Windsor area. Hanover is about 45 min north east of Detroit ( flying time). An overnight stay is a must because the Labatt/ Budweiser consumption would require processing time before a flight! My wife and I will catch you all at the airport if it is Hanover.

Best regards,

Pete

Thanks for the responses so far. I agree that we need to spool up a group of Canadians and get some actvities planned for the spring (US friends welcome - my wife is a PA gal !) that are north of the border.

Waterloo is a great port of entry and very close to three of us.....further for one.

Looking for any others in/around Canada ?

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

Count me in!

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

I and my Canadian girl's kidney will be there. (Shouldn't that give me dual citizenship?) I have been to all of the beautiful small cities in Ontario, some for business but mostly because my two oldest sons, now 30 & 32, were fanatical hockey players. Had great times in Kitchener, Waterloo, London, etc, etc. Even Sudbury once!

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

If you had a good time in Sudbury then you definitely qualify for dual citizenship !

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

I am based at Rockcliffe (CYRO) in Ottawa. A fly-in there would be great.

We are not the most central, but we do have the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on the field and I have connections with Vintage Wings (vintagewings.ca) across the river at Gatineau airport (CYND). My de Havilland Chipmunk is part of the collection there.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

Plan it! Sounds fantastic. Ottawa is another beautiful city.

Ottawa is great town. Spent many summers fishing the lakes north of Peterborough. Cruising Georgian Bay. Midnight hockey in London. Skiing in Collingwood. I gotta be part Canadian by now.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

North of Peterborough .. Kawarthas? Catchecoma? Missasauga? Those are some I have spent a ton of time on.

p.s. Get a Canadian Kidney and you too can be part Canadian!

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

Rockliffe / Gatineau sounds great and we can see Don's Chipmunk in the collection, as well as Scott consuming some Labatt's.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

My deal with my Canadian friend Brenda (she grew up in Newmarket, Ontario,) for the kidney was:
1. At least One Canadian beer per week (check, that's easy)
2. Sing "Oh Canada" every day (check)
3. Always wear a maple leaf (check, but thank God she did not specify I had to root for the Maple Leafs, which should be Leaves, btw ... I would still be on dialysis.)

So I am down with the Labatt's, Molson, Moosehead, et al.
10 years later, the kidney is still going strong.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

Scott,

A good one to add to your beer list Alexander Keith’s India Pale Ale, Canadian of course, I first had it on a small island off the coast of Maine. Brewed in Nova Scotia I think.

Having raised boys playing hockey, singing "Oh Canada" is requirement isn't it....I still hear it in my sleep from my hockey days.

Watch out now you can't be knocking one of the "original six", even though it's not proper english. Bad year to be a hockey fan. What are we to do watch the NBA, I think not.

Re: Looking for Canadian Commander Owners

I would assume drinking Canadian beer is standard maint for a Canadian kidney... :D

I almost wrecked my truck this morning when I heard Gary Bettman actually use the word "integrity" in a sentence. That is grounds for serious physical beat down. I am not a violent person by nature, but I swear if I saw him in public, I would just pound his sorry ass right into the pavement. When you think of the tens of thousands of jobs he has cost or seriously compromised, families who are dependent on the rinks and the teams and the games, all because of his pathetic "small man" ego. Oh, I have to just stop now. I am getting all worked up.

On a more fun note, I am one of the few Americans who know what happened on September 28, 1972 ... in addition to that being my 20th birthday. So I always make anyone I am with toast to my birthday and Paul Henderson.

And on one more Canadian-related note ... just got a signed agreement and wired deposit this morning from a big builder in Calgary for a very nice project, so I will be spending a bunch of time there in January, February and March. That means Ski trips in the Canadian Rockies with free transportation! Yahoooooooooooooo!
