I know many of you Commander owners are huge fans of BOB HOOVER, as you should be, and wanted to announce he will be our keynote speaker at the Planes of Fame Air Museum "Taste of Flight Gala" in Chino, CA on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

If you want to have the opportunity to meet him and talk with him, you can become a sponsor of the Taste of Flight event, as we will be having a private reception for sponsors.

If you have any questions, please get a hold of me. This event WILL sell out! So, if you would like to go, I highly recommend you reserve your tickets now. I am almost done designing the announcement postcard and the invitation package. Once they go out in the mail, the tickets go fast. Very fast.

We have many other aviation celebrities who attend the Taste of Flight. It is the place to be on Sept. 27, 2012. It is a ton of fun! Wine tasting and Beer tasting. And, the tasting is usually a full glass! And, you get to keep the glass(es).

Here's a link where you can get tickets before my invitations go out.

Of course, Rob and I will be there! If you want to sit at our table, let us know.

Sounds incredible! I hate the thought of him having to do that talk without good preparation, so maybe you should encourage him to come to French Lick for a prep session! I'm sure the Commanders would all give him some great feedback on his presentation! ;)

Wish I could be out there...

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

just thinking the same thing, David. :)
wow, what an incredible event French Lick would be having him there/
and what a perfect time..
Susie, put the word to him.

AWESOME Susie! Thanks for the heads up.

Just bought my ticket. I hope I can get Bob to sign my copy of his autobiography!

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

Last year we had Louis Zamperini and it was a sold out event something like a day after the invites went out. Rob and I sponsored the event, so we got an autograph copy of his book and got to meet him.

If you like wine or beer.... you will get your moneys worth! Last year Budweiser brought a bunch of outstanding beers from around the world and beautiful glasses we all got to keep. They don't pour a taste, they pour a full glass. The wineries come from Carl Lee's area and I had a glass of wine from a bottle that cost $500.

It is truly a fine event.

Shane, let me know if you would like to sit with us and I will mark it on the sitting chart.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

Sounds great Susie. I did have Bob tentatively agree to be the speaker at our fly-in a few years ago but he had to cancel due to his schedule. I certainly appreciate his not wanting to overdo travel and running around too much at his age.

I'm not in a position to get out there, but here's a thought I'll throw out to everyone. I would really like to have someone sit down with Bob with an audio recorder, watch the original video that he did with the Commander, and just record anything he'd like to comment on about it, the plane, or Rockwell. Probably only need about 15 minutes total.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

We have a premium room waiting for him if he can make it to French Lick for the fly-in. Would certainly be a great get if he is feeling good enough to make the trip.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

Just returned from seeing Bob Hoover speak at the Planes of Fame museum last night. It was definitely an opportunity of a lifetime for me! Sharp as ever, but unfortunately getting frail. They showed a preview of a new Hoover documentary which is due out shortly (can't recall the name of it right now) - it had some very dynamic music and footage!

Can you believe I was the only one who brought my copy of his autobiography??! I was fortunate to have the honor of meeting him and we talked for 5 or 10 minutes (mentioned I own a Commander and he told me how much he enjoyed flying the 114) then he signed my book with a personalized message.

Very nice Shane!

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

What a great experience and a treasure to keep for a lifetime!

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

That is great, Shane. Hoover has always been such a totally class guy. When we were planning one of the Gape G CPAC Fly-Ins a while back, he was tentatively scheduled, and it looked like I might get to fly him from St. Louis Lambert on one of the legs. I was so excited about that -- what an honor it would have been to fly "for" Bob Hoover for just one mission. Was greatly disappointed when he could not come. Fantastic that you got to spend time with him.

That's a keeper fer sure. Thx for sharing.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

For any fans of Bob Hoover, I watched the documentary about him 'Flying The Feathered Edge' and it is well worth watching.

What a brilliant aviator and just a plain great guy....

Yeah, I read some of the stories but it was impossible to get a weekend pass from my XO as there is just too many honeydoos around the house. I did get out for a few hours up North of here on Saturday and met Phil and his 114 in Parry Sound but then back to reality.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

Parry Sound - Bobby Orr!! Everyone from around Boston certainly has heard of Parry Sound

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

May he rest in peace. He will be greatly missed. Fly well Bob, Fly well.

Re: Robert A. "Bob" Hoover Commander fans

Greatest pilot EVER, who routinely performed the single most impressive airshow routine I've ever seen in his Shrike Commander. I was privileged to see it several times, but it never lost the "magic" for me... Everything he did was just so smoooooth!

And (probably far more important) one of the nicest, most engaging men I've ever met. He somehow managed to make everyone who talked to him feel like THEY were the "special one"... Watching him talk 1:1 with kids was simply amazing.

The world is a lesser place today...
